![]() ![]() Not only will you have to face them in direct combat, but you will also have to use a lot of the environment around you to dodge some of them. Throughout the game Jim will be put to traverse distinct and hostile environments that are full of creatures which are after his suit. It’s one of the distinct features that have made Earthworm Jim stand out from other platormers and offered its players a truly enjoyable experience. The hero is designed using graphics that make the entire game feel as if you're playing inside a cartoon. He can jump high in the air, climb cliffs and even use his worm body as a whip to defeat his foes. Cartoon like graphics that are close to perfectĮarthworm Jim is an ordinary worm who ends up possessing a special suit that gives him great mobility and agility. One of them is Earthworm Jim, a game that has earned its fame thanks to the unique character and world he wandered through. To conclude, Earthworm Jim is a gem, and deserves to be better known than it is.There is that handful of platformers from the 90s which have made history and remained a part of it for the generations that have followed. The voice acting consistently is top notch, especially Dan Castallenetta who is perfect as Jim. This is one brilliantly written show, not only in the dialogue which is superb and enthusiastically delivered but in the surreal gags and post modern humour and inspired spoofs. ![]() What made Earthworm Jim in my opinion was in its writing. Jim is a moron at times, but he is also very charming, likable and witty, while Peter Puppy is adorable, Jim's girlfriend doesn't fall into the trap of being clichéd and the villains are outrageously fun in their motives, how they're voiced and animated and even in their names. They were well paced, being very brisk and original, a refreshing retread from being predictable and contrived. The music is a delight too, the main theme is well and truly memorable and the incidental music is cleverly and imaginatively composed. The animation is truly excellent, with bold colours, audacious backgrounds and sharp and unique character designs. Revisiting it after goodness knows how long, I still do. Even as a child, I admired how bizarre it was but also how brilliantly written and animated it was. Earthworm Jim, the underrated gem it is, is no exception. I am a huge animation fan, and consider some animated films and shows some of my favourites ever. ![]()
